What fewles the metro?

I've often wondered what the metro actually runs on, apart from electricity, that is. Does anyone know? Maybe there is an information board somewhere?:

"This metro runs on good intentions and an inner conviction that it's doing the right thing."

So don't make it feel bad about itself because then you might cause chaos in the entire big city!
